Asian Book

This photo album was a tribute to my Step Mother, Kimie Gorday, born in Okinawa, Japan.

Sometimes I have an idea and look for a need. This one started with a set of Martha Stewart plain black cards and envelopes on sale after Halloween for 90% off! The envelope flaps have a decorative edge (as you can see in the first picture).

Inside Album
The cards were glued back to back – the envelope was glued to every other opening to create a place for loose items.

Outside Album
Spine: A red strip of felt paper was glued to the front and the back – over the spine (to cover the card folds).
Front and Back: Black mat board was cut 1/8″ larger than the cards. I bought an Asian wall hanging (looks like flat straws sewn together) at a garage sale for a $1. I cut it to the size of the mat board for the front and the back and spray glued it to the front. The writing and stitching was part of the wall hanging?s decoration. The Asian woman was cut out of a piece of 12×12 paper, back by coordinating red and black card stock. Glaze (you may not see it in the picture) was put on the hair and lips. Tim Holtz distress ink was used a little on the cover.
Corners: Metal corners were glued and tightened on the corners.
Loop Closures: Red ribbon (one on the front – two on back) was glued between the mat board and the adjoining card so the loop on the front of the album fit between the two on the back of the album.
Stick: Decorative plastic chop stick.
Inside: Decorative Asian papers were used inside the album. The woman you see in the Album is my Step Mother on her wedding day.
